One of the most exciting moments in our Learn to Skate program comes at the end of each two-month session. Throughout the session, skaters spend their time building new skills, gaining confidence, and working toward each level’s specific goal. Every class is designed to help skaters progress at their own pace while having fun and developing a strong foundation for skating.

As the session comes to a close, students participate in evaluations. This is an opportunity for our instructors to assess everything that has been learned over the previous two months. During evaluations, skaters are asked to demonstrate the skills they have been practicing in class. While evaluations can feel a little nerve-wracking, they are simply a way for us to measure progress and determine the best next step for each student.

After evaluations, there are two possible outcomes. The first is that a skater successfully passes their current level and is ready to move up to the next class. This is an exciting achievement and a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and effort they have put in throughout the session. Students who pass can register for the next level and continue building on the skills they have already mastered.

The second possibility is that a skater may need another session at their current level. While this can sometimes feel disappointing, it is an important part of the learning process. Every student develops at a different pace, and spending additional time in a level often provides the extra practice needed to build confidence and strengthen key skills. There is always an opportunity to move up in the middle of a session, if the skater is demonstrating mastery of the level. Our goal is never to rush progress, but to ensure that every skater feels comfortable and prepared before moving forward.

No matter the outcome, our instructors are here to support every student along the way. We celebrate successes, and provide guidance to help skaters reach their goals. Whether you’re moving up to the next level or taking another session to refine your skills, every step forward is something to be proud of. At our rink, progress is measured not only by passing a level, but by the confidence, determination, and love of skating that grows with each class.
